Updated Stash & Storage

I felt it was about time to clean up my polish display and straighten everything up. So it was a great time to take some pictures to share with you guys and actually count them all. My last Stash & Storage post was in March, and my how things have grown!

Currently I have 388 bottles of nail polish. I also have 11 empty bottles in my frankening box which makes 399 total if you include those. (I just need one more, right?) I hope to stay around this number because I can't reasonably see myself being able to give attention to much more than this.

This is the rack I've been using to display my polishes. (It was originally sold as a scrapbooking embellishments storage unit)
1st row is crackles, glitters, magnetics, holographics. (28 polishes)
2nd row is red, orange, coral, and pink. (43 polishes)
3rd row is green, teal, and blue. (48 polishes)
4th row Muppet glitters, yellows, striper polishes, and stamping polishes. (34 polishes)
5th row is purple, black, gray, and white. (42 polishes)
6th row is base coats, top coats, and browns. (28 polishes)
These polishes on the display rack are my most used polishes. It hangs above my desk where I generally paint my nails.

The desk top extends to the left and that is where I have my Melmer sitting. On top of that is my exhibit project which has been entered in an art show to be held in March.

The top drawer to my Melmer is total chaos. It has my stamping plates, toe seperators, extra files, cuticle cream, loose false nails, etc.

2nd drawer of the Melmer contains my neglected polishes. These are ones that I don't use because I don't like them or have a better dupe. This drawer is the one my friends go shopping in when they come over. :)
(61 polishes)

The bottom drawer of the Melmer is where I keep new polishes that I haven't swatched yet, frankens, back up bottles, and nail art pens.
(35 polishes)

Then I have a shoebox size storage box on a bottom shelf filled with frankening supplies. I have 54 polishes in there that are glitters or polishes I don't mind wasting on frankens if they turn out badly. In there I also keep any bottles of polish I manage to empty so that I can franken into them in the future. I have 11 empties right now.

Updated stash count as of October 2013 = 570

  10. I have around 211. Your shelf is really nice. Id like to put mine on display like that. What sort of glue did you use to decorate your melmer? Or does it just stick on?

  12. @patti- a melmer is not its real name, it's just a nickname for that storage device because it's so similar to a Helmer. You can buy it at Michaels so it's a michaels helmer = melmer. I decoupaged the front with scrapbook paper and mod podge.

  15. I put a dab of the color on the top of the lid and store them in shoe box size plastic containers. That way I can see the colors from the top too :)

  18. Wishing I could fit a 'station' in my tiny beach cottage somewhere. I want to get rid of half my stuff to be more minimalist anyway. Storage for my lovely stash is super hard right now. I am over the 1500 bottle point and that's not counting dupes. I am just starting to make a database of my dupes so I can decide what to do with them - selling is what I want to do with them but don't blog so not too sure where/how to sell them. Right now, all my bottles are in both shoe box size Rubbermaid plastic boxes that have attached lids that give additional 'head space' to the boxes. I used to be able to buy these boxes in what approximates 2 shoe boxes together but not increasing the depth of the boxes which was great. The latter are no longer made now. They are stacked in my living room right now. I think I am going to get rid of the TV in the LR - it's old and I don't use that one. Then I would have the space it takes up in an antique amouir to stack I think all the boxes in. I need to decide if I want to sort by brand and color inside brand, or by colors only. Then each box will have a swatch ring of spoons...thinking home made ones is cheaper than wheels and I can keep the acrylic tips glued to Popsicle sticks drilled with a hole on rings. That way I can move the home made stick/spoons to a new place if I decide to re-arrange. I want have in each box a print out from my DB of what is in that box (and once done then add that info to the database). Boxes are a real problem as I cannot see what's in them. Tons of time/work to get this size of collection swatched on acrylic nails glued on Popsicle sticks...wish I had a non driving teen daughter who would love to help! Any contributing ideas on how to sell off my dups would be really appreciated. Wish I had time to do a blog - I have the time to do all but the swatching. Would adore to have a really fun time following with my peeps as they gather.
